Providing our community’s youth with fun trips and opportunities each year, whether it’s exploring our nation’s capital or making friends at summer camp, is one of Noble REMC’s favorite ways in which we give back.
Unfortunately, due to the unpredictability of COVID-19 and its effect on future travel, it’s been decided that three of our annual in-person opportunities will be canceled in 2021: Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.; Touchstone Energy Camp; and Indiana Electric Cooperative Page Day.
The health and safety of our students and chaperones are always Noble REMC’s priority, and the current state of the pandemic prevents us from offering these programs.
Though we’re sad to make such a decision, there are still programs that our area youth can participate in for 2021:
Cooperative Calendar of Student Art Contest
All Indiana public, private or homeschooled students in kindergarten through 12th grade during the 2020-21 school year are encouraged to enter their best artwork for this contest, which will showcase the best submissions from each grade level in the 2022 Cooperative Calendar of Student Art.
A first-place artist will be selected for each grade and will receive a $200 prize. The artwork of each grade-level winner will also illustrate either the cover or a month of the calendar. Other prizes are available for honorable mention and artist of the year awards.
An entry form and a complete set of rules is at indianaconnection.org/for-youth/art-contest. Artwork must be received by March 19.
Scholarships for high school seniors
Each year, Noble REMC awards three $1,000 scholarships to help area students further their education at an accredited college or trade school.
The only requirements for applying are that the student must be an actively enrolled senior, their parents’ or legal guardians’ primary residence must be within Noble REMC’s territory and they must be members in good standing with the co-op.
To apply, seniors can download an application at nobleremc.com/scholarships and return it to the cooperative by March 25.
Youth Power and Hope Awards
Though this one is a bit farther away, keep the Youth Power and Hope Awards in your mind as you make your way through 2021.
Since 2009, the program has annually honored Indiana youth in grades 5-8 for their community service. Past winners have raised thousands of dollars and donated thousands of toys for Riley Hospital for Children, started a coat drive for the less fortunate, raised funds to cure diabetes, developed a program to provide police officers stuffed animals to comfort children in crisis situations and much more!
Winners receive a cash prize, a profile in an issue of Indiana Connection and more! Application information and the deadline will be announced in mid 2021. Keep reading the magazine for more information.
