Marshall County REMC says goodbye to longtime employee Steve Westfall. Westfall has been an employee of Marshall County REMC for 40 years. He started working at REMC when he was 23.

“Actually, I was in the construction field, and I was building a house for line superintendent, Bob Parrish,” Westfall said. “We talked about line work during his build, and with some of his advice, I was hired Feb 3, 1978.”

He started out as a groundman and was promoted to groundman operator shortly after. He then began his four-year apprenticeship program, and the rest is history.

Now, 40 years later, Westfall recalls long winter nights, specifically the winter of 1978. “We rode our snowmobiles to the office and slept on the boardroom floor, just waiting for a tap on the shoulder,” Westfall said.
One thing is for sure, he will not be spending any more nights sleeping on the boardroom floor!

Westfall said he is looking forward to doing what he wants on his own time and schedule. He doesn’t have any plans at this time, but to enjoy his retirement. His advice for current employees? “Be patient and willing to learn and be flexible,” he said. “Your time goes very fast. Be safe!”
