This summer, several lucky Steuben County youths will enjoy some educational, fun and free trips, courtesy of Steuben County REMC. At the Touchstone Energy Camp at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Angola Middle Schoolers Mason Crawford, Ethan Sanders and Konnor Snellenberger will be joined by dozens of other campers from around the state. They will take part in the annual event that puts our future generations in touch with the electric industry. Here they will learn about the role of a lineman, the importance of electrical safety, various properties of electricity and much more, all while experiencing the great outdoors. Attendees will enjoy swimming, canoeing, hiking, ziplining, and several other fun activities while meeting their peers and making new friends. 

Three local high school juniors, along with youths from around the state, will take part in a trip this summer. Annie Delgadillo and Gabriela McHugh of Angola High School and Connor Davis of Prairie Heights High School will set out on the 2018 Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. 

Delgadillo is the daughter of Lisbeth Barroeta of Angola. She is the current president of the Mayor’s Youth Council and intends to study environmental justice and political science after high school. McHugh is the daughter of Kevin and Elisabeth McHugh of Ashley. She is the current vice president of the Mayor’s Youth Council and plans to major in business in college. Davis is the son of Beth Davis of Angola. He is an active member of LIFE, a LaGrange-based youth philanthropy pod, as well as his school’s ITS Troupe and theater program. He plans to major in broadcasting in college. 

The students were selected after applying, submitting an essay and being interviewed by the Youth Tour committee. The Indiana delegation will include over 120 students from across the state, each selected by his/her local cooperative. Beginning June 7, these Hoosier students will travel to Washington, D.C., where they will join nearly 1,600 students representing 44 states to tour our nation’s capital and other historical sites, including the 9/11 Flight 93 National Memorial, the Gettysburg battlefields, the National Mall and much more.
