There are many benefits that come with being part of an electric cooperative. You aren’t just a customer, you’re an owner. You choose who’s in charge by voting for directors each year – men and women who live in our communities, not far-off investors in other states. One of the best benefits of being an REMC member is receiving something we call capital credits.
Clark County REMC is a not-for-profit organization, and we operate at cost, meaning we collect enough revenue to run and grow the business. Once all costs are paid, any excess revenue is allocated back to you and all other REMC members as capital credits. After a retention period, and as soon as the co-op’s financial strength permits, the board of directors issues those credits back to our members. Amounts may range from a few dollars to several hundred dollars, depending on the amount of electricity each member used during the year.
This summer, we are publishing the names of anyone who has not claimed their capital credit refund from 2015, which totals more than $200,000. Please take time to scan through the list of names on pages 18A-D and 30-31 and see if you’re on the list. If so, contact our office at 812-246-3316 or stop by between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and we will gladly reissue a check. After all, it’s YOUR money and YOUR cooperative!.
