Through the generosity of more than 80 percent of Noble REMC members, the cooperative was able to disburse more than $18,000 in grants in the latest cycle of the Operation Round Up program.
Participating members graciously allow their electric bills to be rounded to the nearest dollar, and these pennies per month are placed in a charitable trust with oversight by its own volunteer board of directors. The money is then awarded to non-profit community-based organizations in Noble, DeKalb and adjoining counties and benefits the same community we belong to.
To date, our members through Operation Round Up have given back more than $735,000 to the community.
The organizations receiving grants from the April round of the program are:
- Noble Township Fire Department $1,000, gas leak detection device
- Albion Elementary WOW Walking Program $1,000, incentive awards
- West Noble Primary School Media Center $1,000, books
- Wolf Lake Elementary $1,000, Kinderforest program
- East Noble School Corporation $2,000, AEDs
- Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry $1,000, meat processing
- Noble County Extension Homemakers $525, books
- Stone’s Trace Historical Society $500, water and electric upgrades
- West Noble Middle School sixth grade $1,050, 0utdoor educational program
- Drug Free Noble County, Inc. $1,000, prevention support programs
- City of Kendallville — Kid City $1,000, Kid City event
- West Noble Primary School $1,500, Kinderforest program materials
- Ligonier Volunteer Fire Department $2,500, rescue boat
- Lutheran Camp Association Inc. — Camp Lutherhaven $1,000, summer camp
