The COVID health crisis has been tough on everyone. From quarantine and isolation to job losses and business closures, not to mention the heavy strain on our healthcare system, everyone has been affected in some way. 

But one part of our community has been impacted since the very beginning, with little control over how they could navigate these changing times: our students. While adults have discussed, debated, planned, and strategized the best ways through this crisis, our students have been asked to just roll with the changes. And from what I’ve seen, they’ve done a better job adapting to the changes than many adults. 

That’s why I am proud that Clark County REMC has such a long history of supporting the youth of our communities.

While many of our regular youth experiences will not be offered in 2021 for health and safety concerns, we are still able to offer high school seniors more than $22,000 in scholarships. Twenty local students attending IUS, Ivy Tech, and Purdue Polytechnic are eligible for $1,000 each. And the Cindy Hockensmith Memorial Scholarship will award $2,500 to one outstanding student attending any Indiana college or university.
