Giving back to the community

The Marshall County REMC Operation Round Up board awarded eight grants, totaling $11,675 to the following organizations: 

  • Argos Volunteer Fireman’s Inc. received funding to assist with purchasing new gear. The Argos Volunteer Fireman’s Inc. provides fire and rescue protection to the Town of Argos as well as the citizens of Walnut and Green townships.
  • Culver Community School Corporation received funding to purchase playground equipment for its preschool program.
  • Dustin’s Place Inc. received funding to help with its security light project.  Dustin’s Place is a non-profit which provides support in a safe place where grieving children, teens and their families can find connection and healing through sharing their experience of the death of a loved one.
  • The Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana received funding for the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in Marshall County. The mission of the Girl Scouts is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. 
  • Just in Case Foundation received funding to purchase owlet socks that monitor an infant’s heart rate and oxygen levels and sends an alert if those levels fall outside the normal range. The foundation’s purpose is to save the lives of infants born at a higher risk for SIDS. 
  • Serenity House Inc. received funding to help pay the entrance fees for new residents. The Serentiy House provides a safe, clean structured environment for women to become free from the addiction of drugs and alcohol, and also to become productive members of society. 
  • Triton Jr./Sr. High School’s Trojan Trade received funding to purchase hygiene products, school supplies, food and clothing for students or families in need. 
  • Triton Summer League received funding to help purchase batting helmets. The Triton Summer League is an organization that provides league play for boys and girls ages 5 to 13. 

The Operation Round Up program allows Marshall County REMC members to reach out to worthy causes in their community and work together to help others. Thank you to those members who round up their electric bills to the next highest dollar each month and to the Marshall County Community Foundation for making these donations possible. You have helped donate over $169,000 to organizations in the community!

The next round of grants will be awarded in January. Charitable organizations within the Marshall County REMC service territory are eligible to apply. The organization does not have to be a member of Marshall County REMC. Applications can be picked up at the REMC office or downloaded at www.marshallremc.com.
