DO:

Place it in a central location: Your router emits a signal that extends in all directions.

Make sure it has a good line of sight: The signal can be transmitted better and farther the fewer objects it has to travel through.

Keep it elevated: By placing the router on an elevated surface, most obstructions are located below and will not interfere with the signal.

Avoid other electronics: Other electronics can emit electromagnetic interference that can decrease the signal strength and quality. Some devices to avoid include televisions and microwaves.

Avoid reflective surfaces: Metal and mirrors can reflect the Wi-Fi signal causing areas with weak signal. Water sources including fish tanks can absorb the signal also causing a weakened signal.

DON’T:

Place it in the kitchen: Kitchens have many reflective surfaces and appliances (microwaves, refrigerators, etc.) that interfere with signal strength.

Put it in a cabinet: Cabinets create a barrier that the signal must travel through before the users can access the signal. It can also trap heat causing the router to overheat.

Give children and pets easy access: The fiberglass inside the cables is easily broken and will cause the broadband service to no longer work.
