This annual event is a personal favorite of mine. Seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones, listening to your feedback, and expressing gratitude for your membership is truly incomparable.
The theme of this year’s Annual Meeting was Powering our Community, Energizing Connections. For us, this means providing essential resources and support to strengthen and uplift the community while fostering solid and dynamic relationships among our members.
It’s enhancing our reliability by continuing our aggressive tree trimming and mowing plan, which has resulted in a 40% reduction in lost consumer hours. This means fewer outages for our members and more time for our crews to spend with their families.
My entire team at Decatur County REMC is working diligently to manage budgets, ensuring there is no need for a base rate increase despite an 8.6% increase in local costs. No increase for our members means you can save or spend your money elsewhere.
The Annual Meeting also gave our team an opportunity to listen to our members at an open house, sponsored a community outing, and educated our littlest members with our newest Little Crew Club.
Powering our Community, Energizing Connections means the day-to-day work, from operations to community engagement, including each and every one of you.
Speaking of energizing connections, I am excited to announce our partnership with SEI Communications will be used as Decatur County REMC received $4.9 million from the State of Indiana’s Next Level Grant. This will advance the next phase of our broadband initiative, enabling us to serve 578 addresses in Decatur and Ripley Counties.
For the rest of our territory, we are awaiting the BEAD Program’s funding opening to submit our applications. Stay tuned for updates on our ongoing efforts.
