Thanks to all of you who joined us for the LaGrange County REMC Annual Meeting on June 7. For those who couldn’t attend, we look forward to seeing you next year!

We had a great turnout and enjoyed catching up with many of you, some of which attended your first Annual Meeting, and others who eagerly awaited it’s return after a four-year absence.

We served pork burgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks plus the ever-popular ice cream. The kids also enjoyed the bounce houses on site. Several community organizations had booths at the event, as well as Wabash Valley Power Alliance, our energy supplier, and Indiana Electric Cooperatives, our statewide association. Two directors were re-elected in unopposed races. Directors elected were Tony Bontrager (District 3) and Cliff Hibbs (District 4).

The business meeting was recorded and shown to the audience around 5 p.m. CEO Mark Leu addressed the members who were in attendance. “I can report that we have over 3,300 users connected to our brand-new fiber network and continue to add more every day,” Leu noted. “We are the only provider based in LaGrange County. When you talk to us, you are talking to your friends and neighbors in this area and your money goes toward supporting our efforts to improve the community we all share.”

Leu also spoke on the challenges electric cooperatives are facing regarding reliability, due to regulations that are forcing the closure of cheap, reliable, baseload coal-fired generating plants. “It’s straining the power grid’s ability to keep up with demand,” Leu said. “The electric industry is doing our part to educate policymakers to understand that the transition to cleaner energy must occur on a timeline that doesn’t harm reliability and make electric rates skyrocket, but we may need to call upon your assistance. You can help by staying engaged with your federal and state legislators and you can even sign up for our grassroots network on our website.”

Leu closed his remarks with thanking the members for their engagement and participation. “We are grateful for the opportunity to serve and help make this community a great place to live.”
