Safety is at the heart of everything we do. It influences every decision we make, from routine maintenance of our line equipment to managing large-scale projects. The safety of our employees and the community is our top priority. For us, safety isn’t just about following regulations — it’s about developing a culture where everyone prioritizes safety, ensuring every employee returns home safely to their families at the end of each day.

The employees at your co-op are equipped with the right tools, training, and support to carry out their day safely. To do this, we provide an environment that ensures employees are prepared for every scenario with safety programs tailored to our industry. These include:

  • CPR and first-aid training: Co-op employees are trained in CPR and first aid, ensuring they can immediately assist in emergencies.
  • Fire safety: Employees undergo hands-on training in fire safety, including learning how to use a fire extinguisher effectively through a simulator. This gives them the skills to respond in case of a fire.
  • Pole-top rescue: Our line department staff are trained annually in pole-top and bucket truck rescue procedures to respond swiftly and safely to emergencies involving a fellow lineman working at great heights. This is a timed training as it is critical that our team can climb a pole and lower their colleague for first aid to be given.
  • Electrical safety training: Our operations team participates in monthly safety training sessions. These sessions cover topics such as arc flash safety, grounds testing and safety, ladder safety, hazardous materials handling, and lockout/tag out.

Our commitment to safety goes beyond the workplace; we also have the responsibility of protecting the public. Whether we are upgrading or rebuilding power lines or responding to an outage, our team takes every step to ensure not only their safety but yours, too.

One way we engage with the community and share the message of safety is through our high-voltage safety demonstration. These educational presentations teach the public how to stay safe around power lines and electrical equipment using everyday activities and events. By seeing firsthand the dangers of electrical hazards, participants can learn how to best respond and stay safe. This presentation has been given to students, first responders and community leaders.

Safety is a shared responsibility that requires everyone’s commitment within our organization and the community. Our dedication to safety is reflected not only in our values but also in how we carry out our work each and every day.
