In collaboration with Lyles Station and Princeton Theatre with the upcoming production of “Looking Over the President’s Shoulder,” WIN Energy REMC took part in a social media campaign called “Where’s Alonzo?” The life-sized cutout of Alonzo Fields has been “traveling” around the Gibson County area for his Homecoming in June, when the play is scheduled.
Alonzo Fields, the former chief White House butler who served four presidents for 21 years, was born in the small Black farming community called Lyles Station in southwestern Indiana in 1900. He served from 1931-1953 for Presidents Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Dwight Eisenhower. Fields’ story was shared in last month’s edition of Indiana Connection.
The cardboard cutout of Alonzo Fields made its way to our Princeton office to help promote the one-man, two-act play coming to Princeton this summer. The play is based on Fields’ memoir and daily notes he kept throughout his 21 years of servicing at the White House.
Tickets are on sale for the play that runs June 21-23 at the Princeton Theatre. James Creer, both a stage and voice-over actor and singer, will play the role of Fields. Creer has played this role throughout the United States.
