Every year the cooperative is required to conduct an annual meeting of the membership. The purpose of the meeting is to hold an election of directors, share financial information and provide a cooperative update. Being a cooperative means we’re owned by you, our members.

Southern Indiana Power’s annual meeting has always been a place for old friends to gather, new friendships to form and a glance back to the past and look into the future of the cooperative. 

Unfortunately, due to the lingering concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic and for the safety of our members and employees, the 2021 Southern Indiana Power annual meeting will be a virtual business meeting with only directors in attendance. On Tuesday, April 20, at 7 p.m., we will be conducting the annual meeting here at the cooperative headquarters. I know this may not be the news you wanted to hear, but we must to adhere to the guidelines put in place by our local health department, state of Indiana and, of course, the CDC.

Once again this year, we encourage all members to register for the annual meeting and vote for your board of directors by utilizing our mail in registration/ballot option.

This month, members will receive the mail-in registration/ballot materials with complete instructions to register for the annual meeting and cast your vote. Simply place your completed registration/ballot in the enclosed envelope and it will be returned to a secure mailing address. The registrations/ballots will be scanned in and counted under the supervision of Southern Indiana Power’s attorney. 

All members who return their registration/ballot will be entered for a chance to win one of 25 cash prizes totaling $3,000. Prize drawings will be conducted at the cooperative office on Wednesday, April 21. Winners will be randomly selected by a computer drawing. Director election results and prize winners will be listed on our website and on our Facebook page as soon as possible. A recording of the meeting will also be available on our website. The 2020 cooperative financials and my annual CEO report will be available for your review in the June issue of this magazine and on our website.

I look forward to this event each year, and it is our plan to resume a traditional annual meeting, in-person in 2022. Until then, stay safe.
