After Hurricane Helene hit the southeastern United States, Indiana’s electric cooperative crews traveled to Georgia to assist Cobb EMC in Marietta in restoring electric service, then moved on to work in the territory served by Jefferson Energy Cooperative in Wrens.
Jefferson Energy Cooperative faced catastrophic damage, with 100% of its members without power at one time. Indiana crews worked long hours alongside local lineworkers to rebuild the infrastructure and restore power.
Orange County REMC linemen Scott Strange and Amos Murphy were among approximately 40 linemen from 12 different Indiana electric cooperatives that assisted in the power restoration effort.
The hurricane knocked out electric service to an estimated 1.25 million co-op members.
