Each year, electric co-ops from across the state gather for the annual meeting of Indiana’s electric cooperatives. One of the highlights of the event is the Blue Ribbon Basket Auction, which benefits the Ronald McDonald House. The total raised this year through all avenues (co-op financial contributions, basket auction, 50/50 raffle, and individual contributions) was $17,261.
This year, Orange County REMC’s basket titled “A Snowy Day and Starry Night in Southern Indiana” won the trophy for raising the most money for charity, with a bid of more than $700. (You can see the trophy on display at the REMC office.)
REMC employees Ashley Terrell and Hannah Carter coordinated the donations from local merchants, and Lorena Lindsey created the wooden snowman decoration. The basket included the following items: Big Splash Adventure water park passes, one-night stay at French Lick Resort, admission tickets to Mitchell Opera House, Indiana Landmarks tour tickets, 33 Brick St. gift card, $50 Arby’s gift card, Cave Country Canoes canoe rental, $100 cash, $100 check, buy one night and get one night free at Spring Mill Inn, $70 health care service from Orleans Family Health, wind chimes, Carhartt knife, hot cocoa mixes and local honey.
