Koppers Utility and Industrial Products has recognized Boone REMC’s Rex Princell, member services technician, for its Hometown Heroes award.

This award recognizes co-op employees across the nation who have made a substantial difference in their business and/or community by going the extra mile to help others. Each month, Koppers recognizes one co-op employee and provides him/her with a $500 contribution to the charity of their choice, along with additional recognition from Koppers.

Princell chose to give his $500 contribution to Sunshine Social Club. Sunshine Social Club believes that through friendships, individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities can learn, gain confidence, and integrate more successfully within their local communities. Princell was nominated by Krista Shields, Boone REMC’s marketing and communications specialist.

Princell’s nomination included five different testimonials throughout the community, including people from work, 4-H, church and the community.

“The title of Hometown Hero definitely fits Rex,” Lisa Batts, founder of Sunshine Social Club, said. “He is such a great friend to the community.”

Princell celebrated his 31st year at Boone REMC this year. He currently works in the community helping members make their homes more energy efficient.
