As soon as I retrieve a magazine from my mailbox, I thumb through it to check out my favorite features. That first look-see through the latest issue is kind of like listening to a new song, or even meeting someone for the first time. It’s fun. It quenches my curiosity. And, rather quickly, I can decide whether the latest is actually the greatest (or at least deserves a thumbs up!).
This month, Electric Consumer in its print version has shed its tabloid newspaper format and has relaunched as a magazine. As you peruse the pages of the print publication, you’ll also find a contemporary design, a more extensive use of four color, and expanded energy, food and outdoor life sections. We’ve added features like “Keeping Current,” a collection of news briefs and timely tips, and “Odds ’n‘ Ends,” a reader-focused page where you’ll find personality profiles of electric co-op members; and reader-submitted articles, comments, artwork and photographs. To help offset costs, we are running a limited amount of advertising on selected pages of our publication.
For many years, we’ve “mapped” our issues out. You could count on finding specific content on specific pages — month after month. Though with our new format the locations of your favorite content may have shifted a bit, rest assured they will remain where they have “landed.” Foodies can get their recipe fix on pages 20-22 every time. Turn to page 27 each month for craft ideas and features geared to our young readers and their caregivers. Your local electric cooperative publishes information targeted just for you on pages 4, 8, 28 and 29. Flip through the magazine a few times and you’ll easily get a feel for what is where.
Just as our tagline on the cover indicates, we strive to be “Your Indiana Cooperative Companion.” Please drop us a line or email to let us know how we can better fulfill our mission to publish a magazine geared to you, the “Electric Consumer.” We’ve got some exciting things planned for the future, so look for us in your mailbox each month and start thumbing through our pages right away to find out what’s new!
If you don’t receive the print version at home through your electric cooperative membership, an annual print subscription is $12. Please mail a check, payable to Indiana Statewide Association of RECs, PO Box 24517, Indianapolis, IN 46224. Include your complete address.
