A Twin Lakes High School senior, Hailey Vogel lives in Monticello with her parents, Kerry and Leslie Vogel. “I have one sister, McKenzie, who was on the REMC Junior Board of Directors,” said Vogel. “She was the biggest influence on me to join the board.”
“Throughout my time on the Junior Board, my experience created a new and unique version of myself,” said Vogel. “It allowed me to find my passions and execute my voice through different aspects of the program. It is an experience that I will not forget.”
“My initial goal was to gain more knowledge about my surrounding communities,” said Vogel. “I hoped to create new bonds with other board members and people I met throughout the community.”
“I’ve learned the importance and value of a small yet powerful community,” stated Vogel. “I always thought a smaller community was not a good place to start a career, but I learned I was wrong! Each Junior Board meeting I attended portrayed a different aspect that forms such a unique community.”
“I learned about the different people and programs that make up my community, which was such an eye-opening experience,” said Vogel. “I got to dive deeper into the community I grew up in. It has also helped me interpret myself in terms of my strengths and weaknesses, which has helped me overcome so many obstacles.”
“I have been a competitive swimmer since I was five years old,” said Vogel. Vogel is on the swim team at Twin Lakes High School. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Athletic Leadership Council, Student Council, and Prom Committee. She is fond of her dog, Josie Mae.
After high school, Vogel plans to attend Indiana University-Bloomington where she will study law and public policy with a minor in psychology and sociology to pursue becoming a prosecuting attorney.
Jaelyn Kingery is a senior at Carroll Junior/Senior High School and lives in Flora. Her parents are Angie and Mike Kingery. She has one sister, Ashlan.
“I joined the Junior Board to learn more about our community and build my leadership skills,” said Kingery. “I hoped to develop more life skills I could use in the future.”
“As a Junior Board member, I believe I’ve developed many skills that will help me,” said Kingery. Being on the board has been a great experience, and I’ve learned more about what goes on in our community and how CW REMC influences so many things around us. I believe other students should join the Junior Board to better prepare them for their future by learning leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.”
In high school, Kingery participates in golf, basketball, FFA, National Honor Society, Student Council, 4-H, Spanish Club, and Prom Committee. Following graduation, Kingery plans to attend Purdue University to major in pharmacy.
