Many kids associate summer with adventure, learning, and making lasting memories. Kankakee Valley REMC continued that tradition this year by sponsoring two exciting experiences: Camp Kilowatt and Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.
Six local sixth graders embarked on a memorable journey to Camp Tecumseh for Camp Kilowatt. Over four days and three nights, the campers enjoyed activities like swimming, canoeing, and zip-lining. The evenings were enjoyed around a campfire as they made lifelong friendships.
The students sponsored by KV REMC for Camp Kilowatt included Mason Nemeth (Kouts Middle School), Quinn Vogel (Immanuel Lutheran School), Nathan Fasshauer (South Central Elementary), Robert Fliege (Washington Township School), Lily Johnson (Knox Middle School), and Ryker Travis (Kesling Middle School). Director of Engineering at the co-op, Bri Travis, also attended this year as a chaperone.
Meanwhile, Kaylah Jacob, a rising senior at Kouts High School, was awarded the opportunity to participate in Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. This week-long adventure enabled 67 students from Indiana to delve into the heart of American democracy. They explored iconic landmarks such as the Flight 93 Memorial, Gettysburg Battlefield, Arlington National Cemetery, and the National Mall memorials. Visits to the Smithsonian Museum and the National Museum of the Marine Corps enriched their understanding of American history and culture.
One highlight of Youth Tour was their time on Capitol Hill, where they engaged with Indiana’s congressional leaders and received an unexpected visit from Miss America.
Youth Tour and Camp Kilowatt are complimentary experiences for selected students, enriching their summers with adventure, knowledge, and unforgettable memories.
