Expect exciting changes at this year’s annual meeting.

For starters, our annual meeting will take place during the Jay County Fair on Thursday, July 14. We’ll be at the Jay County Fairgrounds’ round building. Many of our members will already be at the fair for the day, so we thought this would be a convenient time and place for the meeting. You’ll be able to show a hog, get some lunch at the Optimist booth, vote for the REMC board of directors, and enjoy the Cain concert — all in one day!  

Speaking of lunch at the Optimist booth, that can be on us if you choose. When we surveyed our members after last year’s meeting, we found that they would prefer a larger bill credit instead of an annual meeting gift. So, this year you’ve got options. Members have the option of a $20 bill credit, a $10 bill credit and a $10 food voucher for the local food vendors at the fair, or two $10 food vouchers. This gives you three different choices to best meet you and your family’s needs.

For entertainment this year, we will be doing a hotline demo twice throughout the day and our linemen will be giving a pole setting demonstration in the afternoon. At our REMC equipment table, you’ll be able to try on our linemen’s personal protective equipment. This is a fun way to learn more about who we are and what we do.

We’ll also have a kids’ table featuring a special scavenger hunt … and prizes. There will be fun REMC facts placed around the area that kids will be able to find. At the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library table, you can sign children under the age of five to receive free children’s books each month. If you have older children, visit the Indiana Electric Cooperatives (IEC) table to learn about youth programs such as Camp Kilowatt and Youth Tour. 

Another exciting addition to the 2022 meeting is a “Meet the Director and Candidates” table. Stop by to interact with directors and candidates before you place your vote. By putting a face to the name, we believe the voting process will be easier — plus you’ll learn more about your REMC board and what board members do. 

We have many more surprises and exciting details we will be announcing about our annual meeting. The best way to see what we have in store is to join us July 14! You can vote for directors that day from  10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The business meeting starts at 5 p.m.
