Coming soon: Changes in credit card payments

Due to increasing security concerns, credit card companies are requiring tighter control in protecting consumers’ personal information.

The Payment Card Industry (PCI) has implemented requirements for credit card payments that will impact the way Harrison REMC processes these payments.

Due to these requirements from credit card companies, Harrison REMC member service representatives will no longer be able to verbally accept credit card payments by phone or at the drive-up window.

How will this affect you when you want to make a credit card payment?

Credit card payments can still be made over the phone, but instead of talking to a customer service representative, you must utilize our interactive voice response (IVR) system that is PCI-compliant by calling 812-738-4115 and pressing 2. We understand this is a change in how we have normally operated and it may cause an inconvenience for some. However, it is a change required to remain in compliance with PCI regulations and is needed to protect the personal information of the REMC members.

Please know that this is just a small change in the cooperative payment options. Members may continue to pay by credit card, through the website or at the front counter at the REMC office. More information about this, including when it will begin, will be in the September issue of Electric Consumer.
