Geothermal Tax Credit: The federal tax credit for purchasing a geothermal HVAC unit has been extended through 2019, but then will be stepped down over the next few years as follows: 

• 30% for systems placed in service by Dec. 31, 2019. 

• 26% for systems placed in service after Jan. 1 2020, and before Dec. 31, 2020. 

• 22% for systems placed in service after Jan. 1, 2021 and before Dec. 31, 2022.
