As the year comes to an end, let’s reflect on the progress made to bring reliable, high-speed fiber internet to HREMC’s service territory.
Throughout 2023, more than 1,200 HREMC members were connected as crews expanded TWN’s fiber network into new areas.
Currently, there are nine zones where fiber internet is available: Lafayette, Lincolnville, Uniondale, Huntington, Hopewell, Mt. Etna, Wabash West, Servia, and Rock Creek.
After connecting the first members in Wabash West at the beginning of the year, crews moved into the Servia area. Within a few months, the fiber backbone was built, and crews were able to focus on running fiber lines to individual homes and businesses.
By August, Servia was officially fiber-ready, and the first members were connected.
Halfway through the year, crews broke ground in Rock Creek. By fall, the network foundation was in place and crews were bringing fiber-to-the-home. The first members in Rock Creek were connected in October.
In 2023, the total number of HREMC members connected climbed from nearly 3,000 at the beginning of the year to over 4,200 by year’s end!
As the project moves forward, crews will continue to expand the fiber footprint, bringing the fastest, most reliable internet available to more HREMC homes and businesses.
