Kankakee Valley REMC is pleased to offer the following opportunities for youth in our communities. Commitment to community is one of the core principles all cooperatives follow, including your cooperative.

Operation Round Up scholarships available

High school seniors planning to continue their education at a college, university or trade school in 2017 are encouraged to apply for an Operation Round Up scholarship. Scholarships available will include two $1,000 and four $500 awards. Only students whose parents or guardians are Kankakee Valley REMC members and have been participating in Operation Round Up as of Feb. 2, 2017, which is one month prior to the application deadline, are eligible to apply.

The scholarship application must be completed and accompanied by a short essay, which is outlined in the application, along with one, but no more than three, personal reference letters. Judges’ scoring relies 50 percent on the essay content, 25 percent on community and school involvement, and 25 percent on academics and letters of recommendation. For additional information and rules, please see the application guidelines.

An application can be obtained through your school’s guidance counselors, on our website at kvremc.com or by contacting Amanda Steeb at the KVREMC office. Applications are due to the KVREMC office by March 2 at 3 p.m. CST.

Juniors! A trip of a lifetime to D.C. awaits

The Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., annually provides approximately 75 young Hoosiers the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital, experience American history and gain a better understanding about their electric cooperative and government. Kankakee Valley REMC provides this all-expense-paid opportunity to high school juniors entering their senior year. The Youth Tour is scheduled for June 8-15.

Students participating in the trip will visit the Flight 93 and Pentagon 9/11 memorials, the Gettysburg Battlefield, Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Mall memorials, and the National Museum of the Marine Corps. They will enjoy a night cruise on the Potomac River, visit with congressional representatives on Capitol Hill and so much more!

Kankakee Valley REMC will pay all expenses other than travel to and from Indianapolis and incidental expenses of the participants while on the trip. Students interested in obtaining an application should see their guidance counselor or our website at kvremc.com. Applications are due to the KVREMC office by Feb. 17.
