Instead of my normal monthly article, for several months we will be featuring each of our seven districts. Each one is a unique and special place to call home. We’ve also asked each board member from those districts to tell us a little about where they live and why they love being there. We hope you enjoy this series!

Townships: Lafayette and New Albany in Floyd County

District five occupies the southwest corner of Clark County REMC’s territory, touching portions of New Albany and Floyds Knobs. Known for its hilly terrain and abundance of forested land, district five enjoys some of the most picturesque views of southern Indiana, especially looking south toward the Ohio River valley. Mark Huber, district five’s director since 2021, shared a few thoughts about his home district:

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT IN YOUR DISTRICT?

I have a few favorites. The Yellow Cactus on Paoli Pike has excellent Mexican fare and was opened by a friend I worked with at the University of Louisville. And you can’t go wrong with a lunch from the Rice Bowl in New Albany.

CAN YOU SHARE A HIDDEN GEM IN YOUR DISTRICT THAT MORE PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?

After eating at the Chicken House, head up the knobs to Skyline Drive. It is a beautiful drive over to Moser Knob with great views of Louisville.

WHAT HOBBIES OR ACTIVITIES DO YOU ENJOY OUTSIDE OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WITH CLARK COUNTY REMC?

I love getting my children and grandchildren involved with our faith, fishing, hunting, and camping. I also enjoy working with the teams on building homes for Clark/Floyd County Habitat for Humanity.

WHO HAS BEEN A PERSONAL INSPIRATION TO YOU IN YOUR JOURNEY, AND WHY?

On my journey with the REMC, two people were an inspiration. My uncle, Joe Huber, and my mother-in-law, Lucille Missi. Both served on the Harrison County REMC board and inspired me to also serve on our board.
