Happy Easter

Our employees and board of directors would like to wish you and your family a very happy Easter holiday. This is the perfect opportunity to count our blessings as we spend the day with loved ones.

As we’ve done for many years, the REMC will light the Cross on the Knobs to celebrate the holiday. The REMC began this tradition in the early 1950’s and have continued to light the cross two weeks before Easter and two weeks before Christmas. The cross is 50’ tall and uses over 100 – 100 watt bulbs and 3 – 350 watt lamps to light it. It was reported at the 1955 REMC board meeting that a flight commander from Standiford Field stated that his pilots could see the lights from as far away as Martinsville and could identify the actual cross from Salem. The story was told that airlines made a minor change in its course so flight attendants could point out the cross to passengers. We hope that you enjoy the beauty that the cross brings to our community.

Our office will be closed on Good Friday, April 14, so that our employees can enjoy the day with their families. I look forward to seeing you at the annual meeting!
