Harrison REMC is pleased to invite you to the 87th Annual Meeting! We are giving members multiple options again to attend and vote. The first day will be Monday, May 5, and members can attend any time from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. There will be registration, voting, food, bingo, a children’s area, and information booths. On Tuesday, May 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., there will be a drive-thru only event at the REMC office in Corydon. On this day, members will register and vote from their cars only. We have received a lot of positive feedback from members about offering these two options. We look forward to seeing you at one of the meetings.

This past winter, our area saw the coldest January since 2014. The freezing temperatures lasted weeks and brought increased electric use and, therefore, some of the highest bills most people may have ever received. Harrison REMC worked with members to provide some relief by offering flexible payment options — like extended time to pay and budget billing. Many members also enrolled to receive daily kWh use notifications. These efforts can make a big difference in helping manage unexpected spikes in your energy bills.

To improve communication and member satisfaction, Harrison REMC unveiled a redesigned electric bill last month with several new features to provide more transparency and convenience for members. One of the most notable updates is the addition of a daily usage graph. Members can now easily see their energy consumption on a day-by-day basis, helping them better understand their use patterns and identify opportunities for energy savings. This feature empowers members to take control of their energy costs and make informed decisions about their consumption habits.

Capital credits separate cooperatives from other electric companies. As not-for-profit organizations, cooperatives return refunds to members in the form of a capital credit. Profits that are generated either go into maintaining and building our infrastructure, or the co-op shares the profits that occurred in past years with members who consumed electricity in those years. In July 2024, we refunded $1.5 million in capital credits to members who were served in portions of 1988, 1989, and 2018. To date, the cooperative has refunded over $15 million to REMC members.

At Harrison REMC, we understand how important it is to have reliable electricity. Our dedicated employees work tirelessly, day and night, to maintain your power and restore it as quickly as possible when outages occur. However, we want to take a moment to emphasize a top priority — safety. While we are fully committed to ensuring the lights stay on, we always prioritize the safety of our employees and members. Our crews work in challenging conditions, sometimes in extreme weather or difficult terrain, and their well-being is our primary concern. Please be patient during power restoration efforts, as the safety of everyone involved is our highest priority.

We hope to see you at one of the Annual Meeting days. Please review this issue for additional information about the Annual Meetings, voting options, bill credits, and more.
