There are things we all used to do. Fairly recently, as a matter of fact. Then somebody started offering new technology, and now you’re almost embarrassed to admit you continue to do things the “old” way.
I don’t think of myself as a trendsetter, but I don’t want to fall far behind. When we talk about the “old” ways of doing things, how we pay our bills and catch up on the news comes to mind. I’m pretty sure paying bills by mail or in person, along with reading paper newsletters, will soon be one of those things your kids will chuckle at. Much like how you laughed at your parents about their strange old-fashioned habits.
Paying electronically isn’t some risky new idea. It’s been around since the 90s, it’s safer than it’s ever been, and it’s a whole lot faster than writing and mailing a check. While online newsletters haven’t been around as long, they have grown in popularity. Magazines are bulky to store, and if you want to reference an article, you must tear it out and save it for later.
Going paperless with your electric bill and the Indiana Connection magazine is a simple way to lower the REMC’s printing and postage costs. And, as a co-op, when we save money, those savings get passed along to members like you. It also means less paper to store and shred. Less clutter and more time for you.
That’s good for you, and it’s good for our planet. With the recent increase in postage, you can save when you pay electronically instead of mailing your payment to the co-op.
Change has been a constant for as long as humans have been around, but the pace of change is accelerating quickly. You know what? I like a lot of these changes. If you offered me the opportunity to go back to the old way of doing things, I would say no. Once you have used the REMC’s paperless services for a month or two and received your Indiana Connection magazine in your email inbox instead of your mailbox, you will feel the same way.
There are so many good reasons to go paperless. While your cooperative strives to provide complimentary paper copies of your bill and magazine, we may need to reassess this service if expenses related to paper and postage continue to increase. So why deal with paper any longer? To begin receiving your Indiana Connection magazine and electric bill by email, you can call our office or visit kvremc.com/my-account/go-paperless to request the change. Also, you can log into SmartHub and change to paperless billing in the app settings.
