Each month, I enjoy sharing the new and exciting things that are happening at our co-op. I love sharing stories about the great things we see and hear in our community, or giving you a behind-the-scenes look at how Clark County REMC operates. In just a few days, we will celebrate our 80th annual meeting, which promises great entertainment, interesting information, and fantastic door prizes.

But for this month’s article, I want to acknowledge someone very important to me. Last month, our REMC family experienced a heartbreaking loss. Cindy Hockensmith, my administrative assistant for the last 11 years, passed away following an aggressive battle with cancer. As so many of you have likely experienced, cancer can hit any person, any family, at any time. Cindy fought hard and, even at the end, she lived with grace and concern for others. I’ve joked many times that she’s the one who really ran the company, and I could always rely on her talents, wisdom, and kindness to help me navigate any situation the REMC was facing. I and the entire REMC family will miss her dearly.

To honor Cindy and her service to Clark County REMC, our board of directors will establish the Cindy Hockensmith Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to one graduating senior each year. We are also planning a community fish fry at our headquarters on May 17, with all of the proceeds going to support the American Cancer Society.

Our communities are stronger and better when we come together, in both good times and bad. See you at the annual meeting on April 6.
