Members with a field irrigation electric account with Marshall County REMC should have received a letter recently regarding changes to the rate.

In years past, the peak kW demand billing window for irrigation services was Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., excluding weekends.

Wabash Valley Power Alliance (WVPA), Marshall County REMC’s wholesale power provider, recently changed their peak kW demand billing window to Monday through Friday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., excluding weekends. This means all irrigation electric services have a reduced peak kW billing window to reflect the change at WVPA.

Those with irrigation accounts will now have an additional 15 hours per week to run without contributing to the monthly billed peak kW demand. Many members with irrigation accounts have traditionally controlled their irrigation systems manually or through a timer system to shut down during the peak kW demand hours to avoid being billed a kW demand charge on the monthly bill.

Those with timers on their systems will likely want to adjust the hours to reflect this change. We recommend setting the new programmed hours on the timer so the irrigation shuts down Monday through Friday at least 10 minutes before 5 p.m. EST and starts back up at 10 minutes after 8 p.m. to allow a buffer for minor clock differences.
