The Kankakee Valley REMC Junior Board of Directors program focuses on providing unique opportunities for students to interact with community leaders. In March, the students received a special invitation from Representative Ed Soliday to visit the Indiana Statehouse.
With the assistance of Indiana Electric Cooperatives’ government relations team and Rep. Soliday’s legislative assistant, the students observed the House Utilities Committee session that was chaired by Rep. Soliday and were treated to a Statehouse tour.
The students also enjoyed meeting Representative Jim Pressel for a brief conversation about their day at the Statehouse.
“We are very fortunate to have legislators that share the same belief of investing in our youth to prepare them to be the future leaders of our communities. We appreciated Rep. Soliday sharing a portion of his day with the students and allowing them to see government at work,” said Amanda Steeb, director of communications and marketing for the co-op.
