Chris Garner, executive director of Marshall County Neighborhood Center, and Robin Neidig, program coordinator of Blessings in a Backpack, accept an Operation Round Up grant to assist with the purchase of meal-kits and food for school-age children in Plymouth who are on the federal aid program.

Your small change really makes a difference in our community, especially in times of need. On Tuesday, July 28, the Marshall County REMC Operation Round Up board awarded $4,800 to four local organizations.

  • Blessings in a Backpack received funding to assist with the purchase of meal-kits and food for school-age children in Plymouth who are on the federal aid program and need food on the weekends.  Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to provide food for children across America who might otherwise go hungry.
  • Brotherhood of Professional Police Officers and Emergency Services received funding to help provide gift cards during the holiday season to senior citizens with limited or fixed incomes who are often faced with having sufficient funds to buy needed medicines and food.
  • Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana received funding to help pay the membership fees for girls to join and participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, which provides fun, challenging, hands-on activities in a supportive, all-girl environment that build important skills in science, technology, engineering and math.
  • Triton Music Boosters Inc. received funding to assist in purchasing a vibraphone for the music department. The new instrument will be helpful in the department’s goals to develop students’ musical skills, and will better prepare them for the future.

The Operation Round Up board would like to thank the REMC members who participate in Operation Round Up. Many of these organizations have fallen short on their funding due to Covid-19 and the inability to hold regular fundraisers. Each organization that received funding for its project was extremely grateful for the generosity of the REMC members.

If your organization would like to apply for an Operation Round Up grant, please contact Marshall County REMC at 574-936-3161 or visit www.marshallremc.com.
