Cooperative employees and directors are often asked why customers are called “members.” The answer is simple: our members own our business.

Every decision made at LaGrange County REMC directly benefits you — our owner-members.

That means our members have a say in how our co-op is run. The cooperative business model offers members a way to meet our common need for reliable, affordable electricity through a democratically owned business. This model assures that no one benefits at the expense of others and helps build our community for the long-term.

Distribution cooperatives are the foundation of the electric cooperative network. Putting members first is as important to LaGrange County REMC today as it was when the co-op’s first poles were set in 1939.

LaGrange County REMC is proudly led by the seven cooperative principles: voluntary and open membership; democratic member control; members’ economic participation; autonomy and independence; education, training and information; cooperation among cooperatives; and concern for community.
