Kankakee Valley REMC is celebrating a huge milestone this year — 80 years of serving our communities. The best way to celebrate such a significant anniversary is with family.

That’s why we hope you and your family will join us on Tuesday, June 18, at the Porter County Expo Center for what can only be described as much more than an annual meeting. This year’s “open house” event allows you to come and go as you please. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m., with dinner served until 6:30 p.m. Here is a snapshot of what we plan to bring you at your annual meeting.

For the adults

Revel in a ‘60s music experience as you enjoy tunes by 45 RPM from 5-7:30 p.m. In between sets we’ll be showcasing a 2018 year-in-review video – taking the place of the more traditional remarks we’ve made in previous years. New this year: Try your luck and join us for bingo from 5:30-7 p.m.

For the kids

Treat your kids to one of two Granpa Cratchet shows. Granpa’s stage show and miniature truck travels all over the United States bringing back the nostalgia of the good ol’ days and plenty of wild stories. Of course, the popular sparkle tattoos and balloon art will be available as well.

For everybody

We’re ready to take advantage of the summer evening with an assortment of outdoor activities, including a high-voltage safety demonstration. We’re also excited to have our new electric vehicle, a Chevy Bolt, on display.

Additionally, members will be able to cast their vote onsite until 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., we will hold a brief meeting to announce the board of director election results. At that time, we’ll also give away cash prizes and award a $4,000 grand prize vacation. You do not need to be present to win.

Remember, your board election voting packet will be mailed to you this month. Please take part in the election process of your board of directors. Whether you choose to vote via mail or online prior to the meeting, or at the annual meeting, you will receive a $5 bill credit. Member-consumers attending the meeting will receive a special registration gift, too.

We are excited for the new open house style event. You can come at your convenience, take part in what interests you and stay as long as you wish. We look forward to seeing you June 18.
