Operation Round Up grants $10,300

Kankakee Valley REMC Operation Round Up is pleased to announce this quarter’s grant recipients. These five non-profits around the KV REMC service area received assistance for programs that benefit the residents of their communities — and yours.

Housing Opportunities, Inc., Valparaiso — $1,500 for substance abuse counseling for individuals who otherwise would not be able to afford treatment. Providing housing for the homeless, helping families keep their homes and coaching individuals on sustainable lifestyles, Housing Opportunities also provides mental health treatments in LaPorte and Porter counties.

LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra — $3,000 to support the Children’s Educational Concert series which introduces elementary and middle school students from LaPorte, Porter, Lake and St. Joseph counties to symphonic performances.

Community Services of Starke County ­— $3,300 to purchase a new computer system to better serve the organization and its clients. The organization provides services to help low-income, elderly and disabled residents of Starke County maintain their independence in their own homes.

Pfost-Jones Post 1728 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Winamac, — $1,000 grant to help purchase a fire suppression system for the kitchenette. The building is used in a variety of ways including use by the community.

Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, North Judson — $1,500 for new asphalt in its handicap parking lot after a leaking water line below required repairs.


Apply for an Operation Round Up Grant

• Grants are awarded quarterly, with the next round of grants being awarded in September.
• Applications are due by 4 p.m., Sept. 1, to be considered for the next disbursement.
• Non-profit organizations within (or serving within) the Kankakee Valley REMC service area may apply.
