San Pierre Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. received a $5,436 grant to replace the department’s current electric hand tools with more efficient battery-operated tools. These tools will assist in making rescues easier for first responders.
Community Services of Starke County was awarded $1,500 to support their services. Since 1977, Community Services of Starke County has been providing services to the elderly and low-income allowing them to maintain their independence in their home. In 2021, they provided service to 974 households.
Westville Community Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) will purchase hot sticks with their $1,600 grant. The five hot sticks will be placed on the department vehicles most likely to respond to a call involving power lines. WVFD is comprised of 16 volunteers that respond to roughly 600 calls per year.
Family House, located in Valparaiso, was the recipient of a $3,000 grant to support their Nurturing Parenting program. Family House was established to provide children from distressed families with a safe, supervised, home-like location to build healthy relationships with their non-custodial parents.
