Ringing in a new year sparks a sense of renewed hope and optimism about the future. For me, it’s a time to reflect on where we are and where we’re going. At the heart of this reflection, I think about ways we can better serve you, the members of WIN Energy REMC. Our fundamental purpose is to provide you with reliable power, and it takes a network of key players to accomplish this mission.

Our team at WIN Energy REMC is always looking ahead, exploring ways to innovate and utilize new technologies to improve our services. For example, our advanced metering infrastructure, also known as AMI, enables two-way communication between the co-op and consumers. In the event of a power outage, AMI helps pinpoint the location of the outage and can even analyze damaged or tampered meters. In addition, we continuously strive to improve and maintain our electric system and proactively trim trees and clear rights-of-way to keep power flowing and limit service disruptions.

Another critical component of reliable power is the mix of energy resources used to generate the electricity that keeps the lights on. You may not realize it, but WIN Energy REMC doesn’t generate electricity. Instead, we purchase it from our energy provider, Hoosier Energy, and distribute it to homes and businesses throughout our service territory. We depend on Hoosier Energy’s diverse mix of power generation to ensure reliable power is available to our members whenever they need it.

As our nation increasingly relies on electricity to power the economy, keeping the lights on has never been more important. The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) plays a critical role in reliability by monitoring and coordinating the power grid from generation to delivery to the end consumer. We’re all connected to the electric grid, so ensuring the right amount of electricity for all involves a complex process of forecasting energy demand, planning for capacity, and securing enough supply to meet Americans’ needs.

WIN Energy REMC is committed to powering — and empowering — our community by providing reliable service at the best value for our local families and businesses. Managing the reliability of your electric service is a complex job. With our network of utility partners, we will continue working to provide the reliable, affordable electricity you expect and deserve — for today and tomorrow.
