Tracker adjustment effective April 1

Reflected on mid-April bills, Bartholomew County REMC members will see an increase in the wholesale tracker adjustment effective April 1. This tracker, passed directly to members from our power supplier, Hoosier Energy, will be $0.00083 per kWh or approximately 83 cents per 1,000 kWh used. That makes the total per kWh 11.025 cents. The easiest explanation of a tracker is that it is a billing adjustment to cover the fluctuating cost of power we purchase and distribute from Hoosier Energy. The tracking mechanism recovers variable production costs (fuel — including coal and natural gas, wholesale power market purchases, operations and maintenance, and emissions regulations) incurred by Hoosier Energy. The tracker is adjusted quarterly and the amount varies, depending on your electricity use.

Celebrate Arbor Day April 29

On this day, people are encouraged to plant and care for trees. The Arbor Day Foundation encourages thoughtful practices that help preserve community trees while also serving Bartholomew County REMC’s members. The illustration below demonstrates effective planting by placing the right tree in the right place. Trees properly placed can lower line clearance costs for BCREMC, reduce tree mortality, and result in healthier trees for years to come. Trees can add value to your home, help cool your home and neighborhood, break the cold winds to lower your heating costs, and provide food for wildlife.Tall trees surrounding your home, such as maple, oak, pine and spruce, provide summer shade to lower cooling costs and keep out cold winter winds. Arbor Day is April 29th. Remember when planting near utility lines, consider a 25 foot minimum distance from the line. See diagram for more information.
