On Oct. 11, Kankakee Valley REMC teamed up with electric cooperatives around Indiana to improve the quality of life in our communities.  Through Indiana Electric Cooperative Community Day, cooperatives were encouraged to participate in a day of community service in their local community.  The individual cooperative projects celebrated one of our core principles — concern for community.

The focus of KV REMC’s community project was safety.  The cooperative offered member-consumers a free reflective mailbox sign.  Having properly marked mailboxes can save precious minutes during an emergency.  These signs will also help KV REMC employees find member-consumers’ homes in the event of an electrical issue.

Employees of the cooperative worked in the areas of Crown Point and south of Valparaiso.  They installed over 800 signs at our member-consumers’ homes as part of the project.

This project has become an annual one, allowing the employees to work through all counties served by the cooperative until everyone has been offered a sign. To date, the employees have installed approximately 2,000 signs.
