Bartholomew County REMC isn’t like other utilities – we’re a member owned cooperative. That means our members are at the center of every business decision we make. Our mission “to enrich the well-being of our membership and community” has given us a keen focus to continually find ways to help our members.
Times are tough for many families right now. Inflation, higher interest rates and soaring prices at the gas pump are taking their toll, and we want to provide some financial relief for our members. To do that, the BCREMC board of directors unanimously approved a special retirement of Hoosier Energy capital credits, totaling $1.1 million, for all members who received electric service from us in 2019 and/or 2021. Active members during these years will receive the credit on their September electric bill. The average user of 1,200 kWh will see an approximate credit of $70. Learn more about our captital credits HERE.
As a member-owner of Bartholomew County REMC, you are allocated capital credits from BCREMC and also our power provider, Hoosier Energy. You share in the margins of both of the cooperatives. At the close of each fiscal year, all revenue received in excess of expenses (i.e. margins) is allocated back to the membership in the form of capital credits. This refund is a special retirement based on the amount of electricity you purchased during the years 2019 and 2021.
We are pleased to offer a special retirement of capital credits to give relief to our current members during this time of economic uncertainty. We are more than just a utility providing electricity and making a profit. We live in the community and strive to enrich it. You are our members, our friends and our neighbors. We are here to help.
