This month I would like to highlight a special event REMC put on during the month of July. One of our member service representatives, Jenny Sosh, had an innovative idea to support the J.B. Ogle Animal Shelter, I was happy to support bringing it to our cooperative.
Power to the Paws was a month-long donation drive during which community members could bring a physical or monetary donation for the animal shelter in exchange for an entry in a prize basket drawing. The basket contained REMC swag, LED bulbs, gift certificates and merchandise from local businesses. A local author even donated two signed children’s books about pets. By the end of the month, more than $200 was donated as were over 500 physical donations. Those donations totaled over 500 pounds, including 325 pounds of pet food!
We also held a pet portrait event on July 26 to raise money for the shelter. We invited families to bring their pets and have a professional pet portrait taken for a $10 donation. In all, more than $550 was raised for the shelter! Maribel Paredon of Charlestown won the prize basket and was thrilled to help support such a worthy cause.
As we’ve said so many times, being an electric co-op is about more than delivering reliable power at an affordable rate. We care about the communities we serve, because we all live and work and raise our families in the same communities. So thank you to all who supported the event, and well done, Jenny, for the great idea.
