At LaGrange County REMC, we believe that investing in our youth is the key to building a brighter, more prosperous future for our community. We are proud to offer a range of programs designed to help young people unlock their potential, develop leadership skills, and gain invaluable experiences that will serve them well throughout their lives.

CAMP KILOWATT: CURRENT 6TH GRADERS

Each year, LaGrange County REMC sponsors local students to attend Camp Kilowatt, a one-of-a-kind summer camp that focuses on energy education. This immersive experience introduces students to the world of electricity and energy, combining hands-on activities with outdoor fun and learning. Not only do campers gain a deeper understanding of how electricity powers our homes and communities, but they also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

In addition to learning about the electric industry, the camp’s activities include horseback riding, rock climbing, archery, zip lining, swimming and much more!

YOUTH TOUR: CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS

We also offer one student the opportunity to participate in the Indiana Youth Tour, a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Washington, D.C., where they will experience our nation’s government firsthand. The Youth Tour is a life-changing experience, providing students with the chance to meet and interact with other young leaders from across the country, while also exploring the rich history and culture of our nation’s capital.

Through this trip, students gain a deeper understanding of the importance of civic engagement, the role of the cooperative business model, and the impact of the decisions made in Washington on their daily lives. It’s an incredible opportunity for them to grow as leaders, network with peers, and witness the inner workings of our nation’s government.

Recent Youth Tour participant Taylor Jerdon enjoyed her experience. “I highly recommend this trip to other students. I was so nervous at first, going on a trip with people I didn’t know. I ended up having the experience of a lifetime and loved it so much,” Jerdon said.

SCHOLARSHIPS: CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

We’re also committed to supporting the educational ambitions of our future leaders. Through our scholarship program, we provide financial assistance to local students pursuing higher education. These scholarships are a vital part of our mission to promote learning and provide young people with the tools they need to succeed in their careers and life.

Each year, we award three $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership potential, and a commitment to their communities. Whether attending a four-year university, community college, or pursuing a technical career, our scholarships help lighten the financial load of higher education and make dreams a reality.
