Vegetation management is crucial to provide reliable service to our members. In August, BCREMC will be spraying under electric lines. Areas affected will include the areas that were last tree trimmed in 2022; Columbus West and German Township areas. BCREMC will not spray yards; we are primarily focusing on fields, ditches, fence rows, brush and abandoned areas that are not mowed or maintained under power lines. Areas within subdivisions will not be sprayed, however, the paths and roads leading into the subdivision may be sprayed at the discretion of BCREMC.
BCREMC has changed the spraying technique used. The contractor, Progressive Solutions, will be doing targeted, low-volume spraying from backpacks. They will either have a backpack containing the herbicide solution or will be spraying from an ATV. This will secure a more targeted spray. It is safer and has limited runoff to avoid using more spray than needed.
If you do not want your property sprayed, or there is something you want us to avoid in the right‑of‑way, you must fill out the no-spray agreement. A signed agreement must be in the BCREMC office by Aug. 1 for your property to be exempt from spraying. By enrolling in this program, the landowner will agree to take responsibility for the maintenance of the no-spray areas. To see our full spraying policy or the no-spray agreement, please visit bcremc.com and click on “Safety and Vegetation.”
The contractors used are fully licensed and certified to do this work by the Indiana State Chemist. The herbicides used have been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and are registered with both state and federal agencies.
By performing this routine maintenance, we increase the reliability on our system and keep
the power on for you, our members.
