If you were asked to associate an image of a person with Kankakee Valley REMC, you might picture a lineworker. It’s not a glamorous or easy profession, but it is essential to the life of our community. Without the dedication and commitment of these hardworking individuals, we wouldn’t have the reliable electricity we need for everyday life.
Lineworkers must be committed to their career because it’s not just a job; it’s a lifestyle. They often work non-traditional hours outdoors under challenging conditions. It takes years of specialized training, ongoing education, and equally important, a sense of service and commitment.
This dedication is truly what sets them apart. How else can you explain the willingness to leave the comfort of their home to tackle a challenging job in difficult conditions when most are sheltering comfortably at home?
That’s why we set aside the second Monday in April to celebrate and recognize the lineworkers of Kankakee Valley REMC that work around the clock to keep the lights on.
On April 10, and any time you see a lineworker, please thank them for their exceptional service and for their work to keep the power flowing, regardless of the time of day or the weather conditions.
