Carroll White REMC (CW REMC) annually sponsors sixth-grade students going into seventh grade to attend Camp Kilowatt. This year, the unique camp experience was held June 5–8 at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston.

Jackson Marlatt, Auralicea Shuey, and Jaxxtin Wireman represented CW REMC in this session. Students learned more about energy while making new friends and enjoying fun activities and games.

JACKSON MARLATT

Jackson Marlatt is the son of Candice and Kyle Marlatt of Chalmers. A Frontier student, Marlatt volunteers at St. James Lutheran Church, the local food pantry, and clubs that sponsor school and outdoor events. With his family, he also assists in cleaning local cemeteries on significant holidays.

“I recently read the Indiana Electric Cooperatives history page and learned interesting things about electricity,” he said. “I thought about what we would learn at Camp Kilowatt and immediately wanted to attend!”

“I enjoy learning about electricity,” said Marlatt. “Recently, in school, we learned about electrons and protons. I found it interesting how they make energy into light. At camp, I will better understand electricity and how it works.”

“I enjoy physical activities and meeting new people,” said Marlatt. “I will enjoy activities like swimming, canoeing, and horseback riding. I will meet new people who have similar interests to me. There will be a lot of fun activities that I can participate in at Camp Kilowatt.”

AURALICEA SHUEY

Auralicea Shuey is the daughter of Katie Vincz of Monticello. “I’m excited to go to Camp Kilowatt,” said Shuey. “My friend is also going. Our moms have been friends since they were five, and now we are friends. We live in different towns and go to different schools. We will have fun going to camp and doing the activities together.”

Shuey is a student at Roosevelt Middle School. She looks forward to horseback riding and learning about energy.

JAXXTIN WIREMAN

Jaxxtin Wireman is a North White Middle School student and the son of Jessica Uildriks and Anthony Easterday. “I would love to attend this camp because it will be something exciting to do this summer,” said Wireman. “It sounds like so much fun to go rock wall climbing and to meet new friends.”
