Annual meeting time means election time for our board of directors. At this year’s annual meeting on April 10, Kankakee Valley REMC members will be electing board members for District 3, District 5 and the at-large position. If you are interested in serving your fellow co-op members as a director, be sure to contact our office to receive a director election packet. Packets are available now.

The following are the townships located in each of the districts up for election.

District 3 includes these or parts of these townships in LaPorte County: Cass • Clinton • Dewey • Hanna • Johnson • Lincoln • New Durham • Noble • Pleasant • Prairie • Union • Washington; and Liberty and Lincoln townships in St. Joseph County.

District 5 includes these or parts of these townships in Starke County: California • Jackson • Railroad • Wayne; and these townships in Pulaski County: Cass • Franklin • Jefferson • Monroe • Rich Grove • Tippecanoe • White Post.

At-large position is open to all members residing in a township that is part of the Kankakee Valley REMC service territory.

Director candidates must meet certain qualifications, such as not being related to a co-op employee or director and not being engaged in business with the co-op or competing entity.

Kankakee Valley REMC Districts

Interested members will be requested to complete a petition requiring signatures from 15 members who live in their district. Members running for the at-large position can obtain signatures from anyone in the Kankakee Valley REMC service territory. Completed petitions must be returned to our office no later than noon CST on March 5.

In addition, members interested in running for a board seat must attend a mandatory informational meeting on March 1 at 6:30 p.m. CST at the Kankakee Valley REMC office in Wanatah. All members running for directorship must consent to a background check. Everyone who meets the qualifications, attends the informational meeting and completes a petition will be on the ballot. There will be no nominations for director positions accepted at the annual meeting. Elected directors will serve a three-year term.
