The New Year brought Winter Storm Blair, causing widespread damage across Southern Indiana, leaving over 4,000 members without power and affecting more than 75 separate outages. Ice-laden trees and heavy limbs damaged power lines and poles, making restoration hazardous and time-consuming.
Our linemen began working immediately on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 5. After 28-plus hours, extra crews were brought in to help expedite the recovery. Crews from Electricom, Daviess-Martin REMC, South Central Indiana REMC, UDWI, Hoosier Energy, Tell City Electric Department, and Hoffman Tree Service joined Southern Indiana Power in the effort.
Ice storms presented unique challenges, with the weight of ice continuing to cause damage after the storm. Crews worked diligently to restore power safely and quickly, reducing outages day by day and ensuring power was restored much faster than expected.
