Over the years, you’ve probably heard or read about Kankakee Valley REMC’s concern for our community. Our community focus is one of the core principles that distinguishes us from other utilities.
I am proud of the many programs we offer that address every sector of our community. Programs like the Operation Round Up Trust help our most vulnerable neighbors receive needed services through non-profit organizations. You fund this program every time you “round up” your electric bill. Thanks to you, the trust has donated over $1 million to area non-profits since 2000.
We are also committed to our youth and promote leadership opportunities for our community’s brightest young people through programs like Youth Tour and Touchstone Energy Camp.
Through our relationships with local economic development groups and chambers of commerce, we play an important role in our community’s growth and prosperity. We’re involved in economic development not just because we’re a community energy provider, but because we live here, too.
I can’t talk about community commitment without recognizing the co-op employees. They are the heart of our commitment and they show it daily in their jobs. Last month, our employees tackled two community projects: constructing an Osprey nesting site and installing a security light at a new community basketball court. These projects, much like the many others in which we’re involved, allow us to come together with the community to make a difference.
I encourage you to connect with us on Facebook to see what your electric co-op continues to do to make our community a better place.
