Harrison REMC is pleased to invite you to your cooperative’s 83rd Annual Meeting which will be held on Tuesday, April 6, and Wednesday, April 7, from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Harrison REMC office in Corydon.

This year’s meeting will be a drive thru event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, public gathering limitations, and the normal school venue’s unavailability.

There is little doubt that this has been a challenging year for everyone.  Harrison REMC has worked with both members and employees to keep everyone safe and healthy while still conducting business as usual. Since March, we have closely monitored the situation daily. Almost overnight, businesses were shuttered, and many of us were required to stay home.  People had to adapt to a change in income, home schooling their children, and virtually no daycare.

To ease some hardship during those first six months, we stopped all disconnections and late fees to member accounts. Since then, we have worked with members to set up flexible payment arrangements.

To keep our employees safe during this time, we have had some working remotely or on split schedules. These adjustments allowed the cooperative to keep our employees safe and available to meet the needs of our members to provide reliable electric service. We, like all of you, are looking forward to the time when life will feel a little more normal.

You may have noticed the new substation that has gone up near Lanesville. Last summer, Hoosier Energy, the REMC’s wholesale energy provider, began work on the new Farnsley Road substation and transmission line located near the Lanesville Interchange. The existing Lanesville substation located on Highway 62 east of Lanesville was nearing its peak load capacity. Due to additional anticipated development surrounding the interchange, the completed transmission line and substation will provide added capacity and increased service reliability for any new and existing members located in the area. This new substation provides an exciting opportunity for the REMC considering its close proximity to Louisville and the possibility of new economic activity in the REMC service territory.

As your electric cooperative, we are thankful for all members this year and every year. We are committed to serving you. We hope to see you at the annual meeting. Please review this issue for all the information about annual meeting structure, gifts, prizes, voting options and other election-related information. We wish everyone a safe and healthy year.
